Frequently asked questions
At what age can my child join the School?
Most students join us at age 11 (Year 7).
Entry into Years 8 to 11
Older students may join the School subject to the availability of places in the appropriate year group.
Will my child have to pass an examination to be accepted for a place?
All prospective students sit an Entrance Assessment, which - for those joining us at the start of Year 7 - comprises written tests in English, Maths and Reasoning skills. The objective of the assessment is to enable us to identify each child's strengths and areas where they may require additional support as early as possible.
The Entrance Assessment is held on the last Saturday in January each year. If a prospective student is unable to sit the Assessment on this day, we may make arrangements for them to sit this during the following week. Please note that academic scholarships are only offered to those who sit the Assessment on the Saturday.
Entry into years 8-11 may be possible throughout the academic year, subject to the availability of places. The Entrance Assessment for prospective students in these year groups will comprise tests in English, Maths, Science and the foreign language they are currently studying.
Can I apply for help with school fees?
A number of academic scholarships - offering a discount of between 15%-33% - are offered each year to those children who obtain the highest marks in the entrance assessment which takes place on the last Saturday in January.
Scholarships for Music, Art and Sport may also be awarded, with fee discounts up to a maximum of 20%.
In addition, parents may apply for means-tested bursaries, which are based on the parents' income. The maximum assistance is normally 50% of the total fees.
How do I apply for a place?
We recommend that you visit us prior to making a formal application for a place. This might be at one of our Open Events, or alternatively by making an appointment to see the Headteacher.
Once you've visited us, the next stage is to complete a registration form for the Entrance Assessment. A payment of £50 is required for this.
Once your child has sat the Assessment, we will then consider their application and a decision is made whether to offer a place. To accept an offer of a place, parents pay a £200 deposit.
Our registration form is available to download and print.
